Story Excerpt

Genre: Dark romantic tension | 220 words

The hallway was quiet except for the soft hum of the old building settling into night. She stood there with her hand on the door-frame, half-turned, the glow from the lamp outlining her silhouette in warm gold.

“You’re late,” she said, but there was no sharpness in it.
Just knowledge.
And a little amusement.

He stepped inside, shutting the door behind him. He expected her to move, but she didn’t. She held her position — still, composed, waiting for him to cross the space between them.

That was the thing about her.
She never rushed.
She never needed to.

“Come here,” she murmured, and the sound of it brushed over him like a hand sliding beneath his collar.

When he reached her, she took his chin gently between her fingers, tilting his face toward hers.

“There you are,” she whispered. “I could feel you thinking about me before you even knocked.”

Her thumb traced the line of his jaw — slow, unhurried, claiming without force.

“Next time,” she added softly, “you won’t make me wait.”
